Securus Technologies, the leading inmate communications provider in the United States, has long been at the forefront of crating technologies that helped guards and administrators of the nation’s prisons prevent and fight crime.
One of these innovative tools is the company’s technology known as Location Based Services. This system allows corrections officers to track the location to which all phone calls originating in the prison are being made. Location Based Services can be programmed to automatically notify the on-duty corrections officer whenever a call is placed to a telephone that has been previously flagged as at risk for criminal activity. It can also alert officers when suspicious calls are placed, for example, to geographic areas within the immediate vicinity of the prison itself. Such phone calls have frequently been highly correlated with criminal activities, such as the passing of contraband and escape attempts.
Another incredible feature of the Location Based Services technology is its ability to positively identify all parties taking place on any communications device within the prison. All inmates are introduced into the system, using biometric voice recognition developed by the Department of Defense. This means that whenever an inmate makes a phone call, he will be instantly identified within the system. The same biometric means of identification can also be used to identify any third parties to whom inmates are placing calls, who have been identified as possible criminals or at-risk parties for criminal activity or violation of prison protocols.
In addition to this, the technology is capable of transcribing all communications taking place within the prison. This ultra-accurate transcription service is then parsed in real-time by the system, looking for any anomalous conversations, strange speech patterns or the use of code words that may indicate some type of criminal conspiracy.
